Coringa, a wildlife Sanctuary situated on the outskirts of Kakinada city in Andhra Pradesh and second largest mangrove after Sundarbans in India. It is mostly known for its flora and fauna.

Coringa is home for twenty-four mangrove tree species and 120 bird species, according to reports. After Kolleru and Pulicat, Coringa is the place that attracts more and more migratory birds every year.

The northern part of wildlife sanctuary is covered by the backwaters of the Kakinada Bay which is made up of the delta of river Godavari and covers an area of about 29 Sq.km. The Bay is fringed on the southern side by mud flats and thick mangrove swamps.

Board Walk:

The boardwalk is really an amazing and memorable experience. It’s the Asia’s second largest Boardwalk with 2.295 km which is made of the locally available wood named Anogeissus and without cutting a single tree. The old Boardwalk is 0.572 kms. The Boardwalk is 4 feet above the ground so that tourist will enjoy the wellness of Mangroves without touching the ground.

During high tides, water enters the entire Boardwalk area and the tourist feels like as if they are walking on the water. This is particularly more enjoyable on Full Moon day and No moon day.

While walking on the Board, tourists can see Wildlife Creatures like Yellow Fediler craps, Mud Skipper, Some Molluscans.

Boating is one of the best ways to enjoy the scenic beauty of Coringa’s wildlife sanctuary with birds and animals.

Light House:

The lighthouse at Coringa is one of the oldest in the country and is in a tumbledown condition. The lighthouse has been abandoned for years. Once known as a Cape Cori, Coringa was built by the British way back in 1759 and attained fame internationally for ship building, repairs and maritime trade.

As per the records of history, during the time of the American civil war in 1770, huge quantities of cotton had been exported to Britain from the Coringa port.

In addition, one can enjoy Kakinda port and beach as well as Yanam beach which are roughly fifteen miles away from Coringa.
